  • Boston Massacre

    Why significant: Samuel Adams and other protesters quickly spread the story of the shootings. They used it as propaganda against the British. This made many colonists angry at the British. Colonists protest and bring the solders to trial.

    Why significant: Colonists disguised as Indians sneaked onto the three tea-filled ships and dumped over 340 tea chests into Boston Harbor. The Tea Party was the culmination of a resistance movement of colonists against the Tea Act. It is the first backbone against the colonial keeper.

    Why significant: The Congress acted as the national government of what became the United States. They authorized the some militias from all colonies to become the Continental Army. It published the Declaration of Independence and announced to get rid of Britain's control. It also published many important documents.

    Why significant: It was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. It was the greatest victory yet for the American forces. This made the French recognize the Americans. The French secretly became allies with America, giving it supplies and soldiers.

    Why significant: The Treaty of Alliance (1778) was a defensive agreement stating that France would ally with the United States if the former went to war with Britain. In the case of war, the two nations would work together to defeat the common foe.
