Loyalists timeline

  • The Stamp Act

The British set taxes on all legal documents to pay for the expenses of the colonists; which the colonists, in New France, did not like. This is significant because it was the start on how the Patriot started to rebel against the loyalists.
  • Boston Massacre

The loyalists open fired on the rebels who were provoking them by throwing rocks. This is important because the loyalists angered the patriots which led to more hatred between the two groups.
  • The Boston Tea Party

Rebels dumped 300+ chests of tea in the sea because they refused to pay the tax that the British were asking for. They didn't want to lose their profit by paying tax. This is significant because this affected the allies of the two groups. Patriots were getting more allies because the British government was increasing the tax.
  • Battle of the Lexington

This is the first battle of the war where the Patriots attacked the British soldiers at Lexington, Massachusetts. This is important because this marked the start of the revolutionary war.
  • End of the Revolutionary War

This is significant because this is when the loyalists lost the war against the Patriots. The loyalists had to flee to Nove Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec.
