    The French and Indian War

    Both the British and French went to war because, they wanted to extend their North American colonies into the land west of the Appalachian Mountains, known as the Ohio Territory. The war ended when the British defeated the French in Quebec. But it was not until the Treaty of Paris was signed that officially ended the war in 1763.

    The Treaty of Paris of 1763 is important because it is what officially ended the French and Indian War between Great Britain and France.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    After Britain won the Seven Years War and gained land in North America, King George III issued the Royal Proclamation of 1763. Which prohibited the colonists from settling west of the Appalachia Mountain range. This angered the colonists because they felt that the British government cared more about the Indians than them by rewarding them with the land they had fought for.

    The Sugar Act also know as the Revenue Act, was the 1st tax on the American colonies by the British Parliament. It was placed because the French and Indian war cost a lot of money so, Its purpose was to raise revenue.

    The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament on March 22, 1765. The new tax required the colonists to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used greatly affecting everybody more that the Sugar Act. The colonists believed the British Parliament was taxing them unfairly so, they would attack and humiliate the tax collectors.

    Leading up to the Boston Massacre the British had passed new taxes on the American colonies. So they started protesting against British taxation against the Acts. The Boston Massacre was a fight between patriots and British Soldiers. That ended with British soldiers killing 5 American colonists.This was an important event because it sparked the colonists desire for independence uniting them against Britain.

    On December 16, 1773 members of the Sons of Liberty dressed as Mohawk Indians, and broke into three British ships in Boston Harbor, and dumped 342 containers of tea into the water as a protest against the Tea Act, costing the British Parliament more than one million dollars.

    The Intolerable Acts were 5 laws passed by the British Parliament to punish the colonists after the Boston Tea Party.
  • The Battle of Lexington and Concord

    The Battle of Lexington and Concord
    This was an important battle because it was one of the first battles of the revolutionary war. The British Army was sent out to capture rebel leader’s Samuel Adams and John Hancock in Lexington and to destroy the weapons and ammunition of American colonists in Concord. However, the colonists were warned by riders that the British Army was approaching. Even though the colonists lost many men the Battle was considered a victory.

    The Declaration of Independence is very important because it declared the freedom of the thirteen American colonies from Great Britain. It stated how they have the right to make peace, conduct trade, and make alliances with other nations.
