    Black Lives Matter (Updated 2021)
Black Lives Matter is a social group that uses social media like Facebook, Instagram, or other platforms to spread the message of racial inequality in the United States. Messages include #'s to spread its message through any social media platform. This group has gained notoriety throughout multiple media outlets in the last year and a half due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the death of George Floyd. On June 2, 2020, Instagram users created a blackout on Instagram by posting blank black photos.
  • Me Too Movement

    Me Too Movement
Though this movement originally started in 2006 the movement gained major notoriety in 2017 when Alyssa Milano used the hashtag "#Metoo". This hashtag was spread throughout all social media to show the world the severity of sexual harassment not only in Hollywood but within the world.
  • "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop Us All"

"Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop Us All"
In late 2019 a Social Media user created an event about storming the military base of Area 51. Area 51 has had a reputation for holding extraterrestrial phenomenons and other secrets of U.S. history. Roughly 1,500 people showed up at the event from all over the nation. This caused additional military reinforcements to be sent to Area 51 in case it was stormed.
  • Storming of the U.S. Capitol

    Storming of the U.S. Capitol
On this date, more than 350+ people stormed the U.S. Capitol in order to stop the vote of approving the votes for the 2020 election. The reason I am adding this event is that the use of social media propelled this event to the size it became, and it was used while it was happening; documenting itself in real-time. The use of social media also helped law enforcement find the individuals that were involved. I personally feel this can all be contributed to the use of the acronym "MAGA".
  • r/WallStreetBets-Gametsop

    r/WallStreetBets-Gametsop
The subreddit r/WallStreetBets took off to cause market change to the NYSE by having individuals hold on to stocks of Gamestop when hedge fund managers would sell normally, causing the value of the product to go up drastically and giving individual investors thousands or millions of dollars, while major losses happened to hudge fund mangers. This was all coordinated through current social media outlets like Reddit and Discord. This caused a major change in strategy in Wall Street investing.
