Month one
After an egg has been fertilized and implants into the uterine lining, a sac grows around it. This becomes the amniotic sac and will hold the amniotic fluid and cushion the embryo. The placenta also forms during this month. This will bring nutrition and support to the baby from the mother. -
Month three
By 3 months, your baby will have formed a strong attachment to you and should be responding to you with lots of smiles. Your baby will have better control of their head movements and will start to hold their head up when they're sitting up. -
Month four
Will push up to his elbows when lying on his stomach. He can hold his head up without support. Might be able to roll over onto his back. He will push down on his legs when his feet are on a hard surface. -
Month five
By 5 months, your baby's weight may have doubled from their weight at birth. Your baby will soon be sitting up on their own and may even be able to sit for a moment without support. Your baby will now be learning lots of language skills and may repeat something over and over again, like blowing a raspberry -
Month six
Some of the ways you'll see your little one learning to connect with the people around him at 6 months: Is usually happy and responds to the emotions of others. Starting to differentiate between familiar faces and strangers. Enjoys playing with you and others. -
Month seven
The fetus continues to mature and develop reserves of body fat. The fetus changes position frequently and responds to stimuli, including sound, pain and light. The amniotic fluid begins to diminish. Week 25: More body fat makes the fetus's skin less wrinkled and plumper. -
Month eight
The fetus continues to mature and develop reserves of body fat. The brain develops most rapidly during this time. The fetus can see and hear most stimuli. Most internal systems are well-developed, but the lungs may still be immature -
Month nine
Towards the end of the third trimester, your baby continues to grow and mature. Their lungs are nearly fully developed. Your baby's reflexes are coordinated so they can blink, close the eyes, turn the head, grasp firmly, and respond to sounds, light, and touch
