    Prices were much cheaper in the 1970's than they were today. Admission was $3.50 for adults and $1.00 for kids. Ticket books were $4.75 for adults and $3.75 for kids. Today an adult will spend between $87-$92 per day and a child will pay around $86 a day.

    The characters in the 70's had to rehearse in parking lots, gyms, schools, and church parking lots. There were no rehearsal facilities like there are today. Disney choreographers and directors had to travel all over Florida to find talented performers.

    Roy O. Disney insisted the name "Disney World" be changed to "Walt Disney World" as a tribute to his brother, Walt. Walt died in 1966 and Roy honored his death by finishing the park exactly the way Walt wanted it done. Following Walt's plans led to the future development of Downtown Disney, Epcot, Hollywood Studies, and the Animal Kingdom, making Walt Disney World "The Happiest Place on Earth."

    The 70's also brought out the decade's worst killers. On January 25, 1971, Charles Manson was convicted of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to death, but eventually changed to life in prison. Even though Charles Mason was locked away, he still continued to have followers, mostly his family members, that would kill for him.

    One family member "Squeaky" Fromme pulled a gun on President Gerald Ford. This ended up being a failed assassination attempt, but it was also a chilling reminder of Mason's influence even while in prison.

    John Wayne Gacy was a seriel killer of young men in Chicago. In 1978 he confessed to murdering 33 teenage boys. He would dress up like a clown and get young men to come to his home. He would sexually assault them and then strangle them. He spent 14 years on death row and was executed in 1994.

    Ted Bundy, who didn't look like a typical murder suspect, was suspected by the police of killing 36 young women in four states in years. Bundy confessed to killing 36 women, but many people believed he may have been responsible for 100 or more.

    In the early 1980's Michael Jackson became a dominant and popular figure in the music industry. He began his career by performing with his brothers and sisters in their family band.

    An amateur cameraman, George Holliday, caught the whole thing on videotape. The video showed four L.A.P.D officers beating Rodney King. The video was released to the media.

    The four officers were indicted on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and excessive force by a police officer. After a three month trial the officers were acquitted, causing outrage among African Americans who thought it was a crime of race.

    In 1993 Agents raided a cult in Waco, Texas. A gun battle between the agents and the cult members took four agents lives and six cult members.

    The standoff lasted nearly two months. Koresh continued to tell his cult members that they needed to protect themselves against the agents, telling members that the world was going to end.

    When the first plane hit the Northern Twin Tower it caused massive structural damage but also ignited gallons of jet fuel. The second tower was hit by the second plane at a much faster speed, striking a corning and gashing in the building across seven floors.

    The Cabbage Patch riots were violent customer outbursts at several retail stores in the United States in the fall and winter of 1983. That year, Cabbage Patch Kids had been released for sale in the United States, causing a huge demand for the product.

    The federal agents attempted to arrest the leader, David Koresh, of the cult, the Branch Davidians because agents had information that they were collecting weapons.

    Agents finally moved into the compound using tear gas and a fire broke out. Koresh and about two dozen cult members shot themselves to death. The others all burned in the fire. 80 Branch Davidians died that day.

    I would change the world by traveling with my church youth group on missions to low poverty countries and help needy families. We would help them build homes and educate all the children. Knowing that these families would have a place to sleep and not be hungry when they lie down at night would be all the thanks our church group would need.
