    John Smith and his Expedition Touch Land
    John Smith has heard talk of a colony being developed in Virginia. Smith wanted to be apart of the expedition because of his experiences in other countries. The voyage touched land in April, 1607. The colony would soon suffer because of starvation and the harsh winter.

    Charles 1 Executed
    Charles 1st came to the throne after the passing of his father. In his first year as king he had offended many people under him. He was convicted of treason and sentenced to death
  • The Great Awakening

    The event known as the Great Awakening is a time period where people were looking for churches to attend. People demanded more and better churches to attend. All types of people were attending church and this caused for everyone to rejoice.
  • John Quincy Adams Birth

    Abigail and John Adams conceived their second child John Quincy Adams. "Two years after Abigail married John they gave birth to John Quincy Adam. "On July 11, 1767, Abigail's second child was born-a son they named John Quincy Adams, after the infant's father and maternal grandfather."(Unger 10).

    The Declaration of Independence was formed in 1776. The Declaration was stating America's independence from Britain. It was drafted by, "A committee of five, including Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams, was appointed to draft a declaration of independence."(Oakes 197).

    Duke De La Vauguyon was the French ambassador at the Hague. While Adams was there he witnessed how scientifically advanced France was compared to America. Adams saw many of their inventions, this is where he found his interest in science.

    John Quincy Adams enters Harvard after having to take the placement test because the president said he was not qualified. Adams graduates with a bachelors in arts. Adams graduated second in his class with minimal challenges.

    George Washington was Americas very first president. Although Washington did not take the oath until April 30th his term started March 4, 1789. When he was inaugurated, congress had already started.

    The Revolution started because the people wanted France to have a constitution. They wanted regulations for the rights of man.
  • First National Bank was Formed

    The National Bank was recommended by Hamilton. Hamilton says it, "would ensure stable currency and enable the government to mobilize capital for development."(Oakes 232). Many people were not in favor of the bank but after Hamilton pursuaded Washington the bank bill was signed.

    Eli Whitney created the Cotton Gin because of the boom of cotton demand. This changed slavery because it made the lives of the slaves much easier. Slavery was a hard and punishing time for African Americans, so the Cotton Gin made it easier.

    John Quincy Adams married Louisa Catherine Johnson on July 26, 1797. They had their ceremony in London with Adams brother, sisters and parents there. Adams was 30 and his wife was 22.

    Alexander 1 became emperor of Russia and decides to help Napoleon in the Spanish war. Alexander wanted to rule in a positive way. People liked him, they thought he was happy but just.

    Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana purchase was a deal struck by Thomas Jefferson with the French. The territory was bought for 15 million, which equates to 3.5 cents an acre. The Americans had said that the purchase included West Florida, this problem would be resolved later in American history.

    Madrid rises up against Napoleon which starts the war. In South America others started to revolt because of this and wanted to be free from their ties back in Spain.

    The Secretary of State was considered beside the president to hold the most important post. John Adams was put with names such as Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. "Two days after his inauguration, President Monroe named John Quincy Adams of Massachusetts to be secretary of state-the first sign of a break in the Virginia dynasty that had provided four of the first five presidents."(Unger 190).

    John Quincy Adams Enters Presidency
    John Quincy Adams was running against Jackson. In Kentucky's popular election Adams did not receive a single vote for the presidency. Although Adams did not receive a vote from Kentucky's election some other states voted for him. "Congressional delegates from Ohio and Missouri- the other states Clay had won- also cast their votes for John Quincy, and on February 9, after only one house ballot, John Quincy Adams had won the election as the nations sixth President."(Unger 236).
  • Adams voted in favor of Jacksons Bill

    With a Civil War threatening, Jackson asked congress to allow him to use military force if necessary. After Adams backed Jacksons bill
    Jackson signed the Force Bill into law on March 2. Doing so Jackson scared South Carolina to rescind the Nullification Act.

    Frederick Douglass Escapes Slavery
    Frederick Douglass was a slave who was literate which is uncommon for the time period. To escape slavery Douglass dressed as a sailor and boarded a train heading north. He had papers and called himself by a different name.
  • John Quincy Adams Death

    John Quincy Adams lived a very eventful life. He had accomplished so many things that others would only have dreamed of. Adams passing caused for the entire nation to mourn. "Eighty-year-old John Quincy lay in coma for the next two days, and at 7:20 p.m., on February 23, 1848, he died in the Capitol he adored."(Unger 310).
