    Perse School
    After moving around with his family, John traveled each day on a train to Perse to attend school. He received tutoring for reading, but excelled in mathematics. This is where he took his advanced school examinations in mathematics and physics. Later, he won a major scholarship to Trinity College in Cambridge.

    Trinity College, Cambridge
    During his time at Trinity College, Polkinghorne specialized in quantum mechanics his third year. Among his contemporary reading mathematics and applied mathematics, Michael Atiyah (mathematician), Nicholas Kemmer (physicist), and Paul Dirac (physicist) were those who taught or tutored him.

    Throughout this timespan, Polkinghorne graduated from Cambridge and was elected to be the professor in Mathematical Physics (1968). This of course, was after he published his papers in "Temporally Ordered Graphs in Quantum Field Theory" and "An Identity for the S Matrix for a Finite Time Interval, Renormaliztion of the Tranformation Operators of Quantum Electrodynamics". In 1974, he was honored for his contributions to mathematical physics by the Royal Society.

    Polkinghorne decided on a career change to become an ordained deacon. He still continued his work in science and integrated faith into his theories. He publish many books. Some examples include,"Science and Creation: The Search for Understanding," "Reason and Reality: The Relationship Between Science and Religion," and "faith, Science and Understanding."
  • Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II 1997-2002

    Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II 1997-2002
    Because of his services to science and religion, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. From there he still continued to earn honors and awards from several universities as well. In 2002, he received the Templeton Prize for theology of natural science and his understanding of how faith plays a part in the world. Recognizing his accomplishments in science, Religion, and work at the universities. Later, he became the founding President of the "International Society for Science and Religion."
