Italy during 1918-1945.

  • The Biennio Rosso.

    Unemployment rose to over 2 million in 1919, these years became known as the biennio rosso or the ‘two red years’. Throughout 1919, strikes, factory and land occupations, organised by trade unions and peasant and involving over 1 million workers, gone across Italy. By the end of 1919, they had more than 2 million members, compared to about 250,000 at the beginning of the year.
  • Fascism in Italy.

    Italian Fascism was rooted to restore and grow Italian territories, which Italian Fascists deemed necessary for a nation to strengthen its superiority and strength and to avoiding it to decay
  • Mussolini's hopes to Power.

    Mussolini had hopes of achieving real power and he was
    determined to take advanaged of opportunities to do so. He needed to convince the industrialists, landowners and the middle classes that the liberals were finished as an effective political force, that there was a real threat of socialist revolution, and that only the fascists were strong and determined enough to take the necessary action of Italy.
  • Benito Mussolini becomes Prime Minister.

    Benito Mussolini became prime minister of Italy. In 1925, with
    the backing of his Fascist Party, he made himself dictator and ruled Italy for the next 20 years.
  • Antisemitism in Italy.

    Italy passed a law in September 1938 which prohibits "new" Jews from entering Italy. It also bans Jews from teaching profession and excludes them from receiving an education in public secondary schools. Also a ban on intermarriage and excluded them from the army and public jobs and a limit to Jewish activities are later added into the ban.
  • Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, and Austria declared war on Italy.

    These events were quickly leading Italy into World War 2.
  • Declaration of War.

    After the sudden defeat of France by Germany, Mussolini finally decides to join the war.
  • Tripartite Act.

    The Axis powers of Germany, Italy, and Japan really connect their ties through this act which makes "an enemy of an ally an enemy to all".
  • Italy invades Greece.

    Italians leaders decided to send 700,000 soldiers to invade Greece. all unknown to the Germans, also Italian government issues to Greece to accept occupation or war.
  • Germany and Italy finally declare war on America.

    Germany and Italy finally declare war on America.
    Germany and Italy sides with Japan and officially declare war on the United States.
  • The Gazala

    Rommel launches support on the southern side of the Gazala Line.British defenses. Cruewell, launches an assault on the northern side in an attempt to confuse Allied forces from the real attack coming from the south.The Allies of Cruewell put up a stubborn defense, repelling Rommel. Hitler has few options but to plan a retreat for his overwhelmed forces in Sicily. As such, he orders an official withdrawal in the Gazala line.
  • Take over of Sicily/Deposed of Mussolini

    Allied troops crossed into the island of Sicily in July 1943 and took it in thirty-nine days. In result of that Italian leaders deposed Mussolini on July 25, 1943. Six weeks later, they withdrew from Germany and signed with the Allies. Germany immediately occupied Italian towns and cities, seizing control of local governments and taking what they needed.
  • Evacuation of Sicily.

    Axis forces from Sicily begins plan to evacuate. Only 100,000 made out, while the rest are still captured.
  • Cassino takeover.

    The US is involved in major assault on Cassino. 70,000 men, 27,000 tons of goods, 508 artillery guns and 237 tanks are ashore on the beachhead.US and Indian losses mount in the offensives against German positions in Calvario, the town of Cassino and Monte Cassino itself. By March 15th-21st Monte Cassino are officially in Allied hands.
  • Mussolini and his Mistress Captured and Hung.

    Allies captured Mussolini and his mistress and the Italians did a short mock trial and afterwards hung them both in a gas stations to make them look like a fool.
