  • About the Book/ Why I Chose It

About the Book/ Why I Chose It
    About the book-
    Setting: Sierra Foothills, California
Characters: Nicole Reed, Isabel Reed, Wolf, Nicole and Isabel's Dad, Laurel, Pauly, Kiva
Premise: Nicole and Isabel's mom ran away, causing their dad to go after her, leaving the girls home is the woods alone. They have been working on survival all their lives but when they are put to the task, things get a lot harder than they thought. Why I chose this book- After readiang what the book was about, I became very interested in the story.
  • The Move

    The Move
The Reed family makes a big move from a nice suburban neighborhood to the middle of nowhere. Nobody is happy about this move except their dad, who is a retired Lieutenant Colonel, trying to get the family use to the worst. They end up living by a spiritual village with some pretty odd but interesting people. Thinking: a little slow in the beginning but insteresting plot.
  • Mom Leaves

    Mom Leaves
Nicole's mother had a horrible childhood; running from becoming slaves and killed for a long time. This move had made her lose it, causing her to storm out of the house and not come back. Dad is devistated, Isabel is mad mom did not take her with her, and Nicole has no idea. Thinking: I would not blame her for not wanting to live in a broken down home but I do not think she should have left without trying to get the family back where they are from.
  • The Strange Boy in the Treehouse

The Strange Boy in the Treehouse
One of the many survival skills Nicole knows it hunting, and being surrounded by trees makes it all a lot easier for her. That is until she comes across a boy named Wolf --- building a treehouse --- who is an lover all for animals. Having and animal loving, tree-lurking teenage kid in her yard will make hunting very hard. Thinking- I could kind of guess that they would end up together at the end of the story.
  • All Alone

    All Alone
It has been about a week since Nicole and Isabel's mom left. Their dad is starting to get very nervous and wants to know where she went. After taking Nicole grocery shopping for several months worth of food and house hold items, he drops the news that he will be leaving to go find her, not saying when he will be back. The sisters are left alone with eachother until his return; they do not get along very well so they knew that things were about to get crazy. Thinking: This just got interesting.
  • Wolf's Mom Returns

    Wolf's Mom Returns
After disappering on a spiritual vacation a year ago, Wolf's mom, Annika, returned to the village trying to rekindle her relationship with her son. Wolf was mad at her for leaving the first time when he was younger, so now he is not going to forgive her that easily. Thinking: How could Annika just leave her kid like that so many times just to "find herself"?
  • No Water

    No Water
The new house is very old and there are many flaws, but one of the worst is when the water pipes broke. With the hot July heat beating down on Nicole and Isabel, and the lack of extra money, makes this situation a whole lot harder. Nicole takes her large variety of survial skills and attemps to fix the pipes by herself without the help of a plummer. Fortunately, Wolf comes around the house in hopes for bonding time with Nic, only to end up helping her with the pipe. Thinking: good luck kids!
  • Hitchhiking

    Hitchhiking
Isabel is really irritated with Nicole and just needs to get away; she packed up some money she saved from her birthdays and other hollidays spent with families, and left for the main road. Isabel ended up being picked up by some of Wolf's friends, Laurel, Pauly, and Kiva. While getting to know eachother, the group of newly friends drove into the near by town to grab some dinner. Thinking: I got nervous when she left because I thought some weirdo would pick her up.
  • The Party

    The Party
Wolf's mom is throwing a party and he invited Nicole and Isabel to it. While they are at the party Wolf and Nicole sneak way so he can show her more of the treehousees he made, one which they end up hanging out with until they worry about what Isabel has gotten herself into. Thinking: I imagined a crazy party with a bunch of teenagers around. With Isabel only being 14 I was wondering what she was doing.
  • Mom's Letter

    Mom's Letter
The day after the party was a little regretful for Nicole, but when she found a letter sent from her mom, all those feeling left and were replaced with fear. She wrote about how she missed them and how things between dad and her were no longer the same. Nicole finally had enough when her mom mentioned getting a divorce. This letter made her question everything. Thinking: I would already from maybe never seeing my mom again but getting a letter from her would make it worse I think.
  • Secrets in a Relationship

    Secrets in a Relationship
The letter Nicole got from her mom changed all her thoughts about her parents relationship. She began snooping around in her fathers office trying to find old memories of what they were like as teens. After a while she started to regret her search, finding the most devistating information ever. Thinking- I was so worried her dad would come home in the middle of her search. Also finding all this information would make me very upset.
  • The Forest Fire

    The Forest Fire
There has always been small forest fires happening around the village; until one night when the fire spread down to the homes of many people. While everyone was evacuating, Nicole has known that there is no way the fire would cross the river. She and Isabel stayed in the house while firemen and police officers came to make sure everyone was safe. They came and got the girls and while the fire truck was driving the girls saw their dad drive towards the house. Thinking: This part made me anxious.
  • Getting Better

    Getting Better
After all the things Nicole and Isabel have been through together they have come closer than they were before they moved into the middle of nowhere. Now they want to get away from the house so they decided to go to highschool and make some real friends. Thinking: I am glad they are less annoyed with eachother now because they have been though a lot and if that did not help their relationship I do not know what will.
  • Part One

    Part One
Nicole Reed is writing a letter to her father that she never plans him to read. She talks about how he has prepared their family for every disaster, thinking that they would be ready for anything; however, they were never taught how to defeat the fears in their minds and hearts. Thinking: This is a really good way to start the book and get my interest.
  • Reflection

    Reflection
What did you think of your book overall? I thought it was really good. The first chapter was a bit slow but it got more and more interesting as the story progressed.
Would you recommend it to a friend? Already have!
Would you watch the movie if there were one? There is a very good chance that I would.
Would you read the next one in the series? maybe.
Was it believable? In a way, yes.
What did you wish were different? Not much. I would probably make the beginning go faster.
