    Marco Polo
    Born in 1254 to an Italian family, Marco Polo was a well seasoned traveller and navigator who traveled the Silk Road and later became a friend of Kublai Khan
  • 1453

    Fall of Constantinople

    Fall of Constantinople
    The Byzantine held Constantinople fell to the Ottoman Empire in 1453, after this the Ottomans held a monopoly over the silk road trade routes. This led to Europeans looking for a way to reach Asia and Asia Minor. Later on after Constantinople was retaken by the Crusaders it led to a revival in Greek and Roman studies which helped start the Renaissance period in Europe.

    Vasco de Gama
    Vasco de Gama was the first European Sailor to reach India after the Fall of Constantinople. Due to the fall, the silk road trade did not useable.

    Queen Elizabeth granted the EIC a Royal Charter that gave a 21 year monopoly on all trade in India and later on became a political power

    The French were able to defeat the British in many battles because of their connections to the Native Americans

    Indians took over Fort Williams and held British survivors in the Black Hole of Calcutta which was a small dungeon in the Fort
  • Indian Mutiny

    Indian Mutiny
    The official start of the mutiny was in Meerut when the British made the army grease the new rifle cartridges with cow and pig fat which enraged both the Hindu and Muslim Sepoys. There were awful atrocities committed.

    Born in the port city of Porbandar Gandhi was the youngest of 4 children in a merchant caste. His mother was deeply religious often fasted herself into sickness. His father was a strict merchant.
  • Indian National Congress

    Indian National Congress
    After forming at 1885, the Indian National Congress dominated the Indian Movement for independence against Britain. It formed most of Indian's government from the time of Independence.
  • Muslim League

    Muslim League
    A political group that led the movement for the separate country of Indian Muslims during the Partition of British India. Before the Muslim League was and encouraged and favored by the British. However, the organization adopted self-government for India. For decades, leaders like Jinnah supported the unity of Hindu and Muslim in an independent India. Then the Muslim wanted a separate country because they feared that the new independent country would be dominated by the Hindu Indians.

    A war that encompassed the whole planet dividing the world into the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente
  • Massacre at Amritsar

    Massacre at Amritsar
    In a meeting that was against a recently passed law British General Dyer led a squadron into Amritsar Square and open fired on unarmed civilians with women and children in the crowd as well. He was unable to bring in a tank which he would have had open fire on the crowd. 379 people were killed and over 1000 injured and the only reason they stopped was that they had run out of bullets.
