    Immigration Act
    At this time period, Canada wanted to encourage others to settle in the west, this was due to fear of the U.S.A taking over their land. During the 1860's a better means of transportation via boat was created, allowing more people to safely travel to Canada. This act also put restrictions on entering Canada, it was structured so that people who were challenged physically where not wanted, only the best of the best where accepted. This act called upon immigrants but it was not easy to enter.

    The Chinese Head Tax was a system in which Chinese people were taxed for entering into Canada. It started with $50, to $100, to a staggering $500. The Chinese were the only ones who had to pay this taxes for entry into Canada throughout history. The Chinese were allowed into Canada for their labor and they helped with major builds in Canada's history. The money that was collected was given to the government, basically, the Chines paid a lot of money to the government.
  • Komagata Maru Incident

    Komagata Maru Incident
    At this point in history, there was a ship in which British regime members rode in tried to migrate into Canada. The passengers were denied entry into Canada, they were sent from Hong Kong to arrive at Vancouver. The passengers stayed at the docks for 2 months, they were not allowed food or water. They finally left and were accepted by a gunboat which killed many passengers onboard.

    Internment of Ukrainian Canadians
    The Internment of Ukrainian Canadians was a sad part of Canada's history. On December of 1914 under the war measures act the Ukrainians were put into internment camps. It was a recording of about eight and a half thousand people of Ukrainian descent and German decent properties were seized by the government. Ukrainians were put under labor and virtually got no pay. This chain of event happened due to a war breaking out through Russia and the British Empire.

    The Great Depression started when the stock market fell dramatically, everyone suffered dearly because of the merciless poverty bestowed upon them. Almost everyone in Canada was unemployed and or losing money fast. The result being, immigration decreasing due to the situation the country was already in.

    The Internment of Italian Canadians happened during World War two. A war erupted and the Italians were labeled as enemy allies, meaning they were associated with the enemies of Canada. Up to 700 men were arrested and Italians where untrusted by the government. Italians were no longer allowed to enter Canada or leave Canada's watchful eye.

    The Internment of Japanese Canadians was due to war. Japanese Canadians were always subjected to racism ever since immigration in 1877. Later on, that racism transformed itself into internment camps for the Japanese people. This event stopped the immigration of Japanese people for a temporary period of time.

    The establishment of the Canadian citizenship showed the rest of the world that Canada was gaining a national identity. In order to acquire a Canadian citizenship, he or she must live in Canada for 5 years, and or be a born Canadian. The Canadian citizenships entry into Canadian laws was also a hope for Canada to terminate racism and ethnic tension. This encouraged more people to immigrate and become citizens of Canada.

    The immigration categories were created in 1976. The 4 categories are immigration law, family reunification, non-discrimination, concern for refugees, and promotion of Canada's economic, social, and cultural goals. It helped Immigrants enter to a place where it most fits them.

    The Immigration Act of 1976 really outlined the ambitions and policy of Canadian immigration. The act showed the point Canada's immigration law, family reunification, non-discrimination, concern for refugees, and promotion of Canada's economic, social, and cultural goals. The requirements to enter Canada was less strict and more lenient towards immigrants. Three groups of immigrants were admissible recognized, independent immigrants, refugees, and the family class.[Motioned on April 1978]

    Singh Decision
    April 4th is known as refugee day in Canada, immigrants were rejected entry into Canada under the Immigration Act of 1976. When the Singh Decision was put into place because the supreme court stated Immigrants right where getting violated. It was then brought into motion on the supreme court that chapter 7 in the Charter of Rights and Freedom was under siege.

    Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
    The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act was brought into play in June of 2002. After this Act was created it basically replaced the Immigration Act of 1976.This new Act was written in fine details and was in line with the Charter of Rights and Freedom, it underlined what was needed to enter Canada legally.
