Malala Yousafzai starts using her voice by writing a diary for the BBC. She used a pseudonym. Malala wrote about her life under the Taliban and how afraid she was. Later that year, her real name was exposed accidentally. -
Malala Leaves Her Homeland
Malala Yousafzai left her homeland because there would be war between the Pakistan government and the Taliban. She stayed in one of her relative's houses while the fighting raged on for months. They came home to a destroyed Khushal School. -
Malala Yousafzai Is Nominated
Malala is nominated for a peace prize of Kids Rights, a children advocacy group based in Amsterdam. Her name was nominated by Archbishop Desmond Tutu from South Africa. She became a runner-up! -
Malala Yousafzai Wins Another Prize!
Malala wins Pakistan's first National Peace Prize. The prize would now be awarded annually and was renamed the Malala prize in her honor. When Malala Yousafzai was awarded the prize, she requested that the prime minister rebuild the schools destroyed by the fighting and establish a girl's university in Swat. -

On Malala's way home from school, a young man stops and asks the bus driver if this was the Khushal School bus. Another man jumped onto the tailboard and asks, "Who is Malala?" Malala was shot point-blank. She described everything going black. -
Starting to Recover
The bullet traveled down the left side of Malala's head down to her shoulder. She was first treated in a Pakistan hospital but was soon transferred to a hospital in Birmingham, England for further treatment. She was put in a coma because there was a surgery needed in order to save Malala's life. -
The Malala Fund
Pakistan's president forms the $10 million education fund for Malala Yousafzai. The Malala fund will enable girls to complete 12 years of safe, quality education so they can achieve their dreams. -
The Nobel Peace Prize
Malala wins the Nobel Peace prize on this day. She is the youngest person ever known to win the Nobel Peace Prize. One of her quotes is "One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world."
