    The Journey

    Ian Hacking was bourn in Vancouver, British Colombia. In 1956 he received his undergraduate degree from the University of British Columbia. Afterwards he continued on to the University of Cambridge where her earned his PhD. He become an instructor at the University of Princeton in 1960. From 1960 to 2011 he filled various instructor roles in various universities where he was a professor of philosophy and eventually, earning the title of chair of philosophy and history of science.

    Bridge Builder

    Ian Hacking has been described by his peers as the bridge builder due to his approach in the scientific world. His approach is interdisciplinary, historical, and from all accounts original. His work was able to bridge the gaps in the debated in the following decades on how to understand science. There are many conflicting understandings of scientific knowledge. He showed that time and time again analytical and historical perspectives can work in combination for a general understanding.

    Achievements

    Ian Hacking was awarded the Killam Prize, Holberg International Memorial Prize, Austrian Decoration for Science and Art, Balzan Prize. All of these awards showed one thing. This man was extremely educated and original in his approaches to science. His other achievements that he managed to get in his life up till now; He gave the Sigmund H. Danziger, Jr. Memorial Lecture in the Humanities, was appointed visiting professor at University of California, Santa Cruz, among others.

    The Current
    He is now retied and concluded his teaching career in 2011, leaving from the University of Cape Town. Ian Hacking is now living in Toronto, Canada where him an his wife live out the rest of their days tending to their inner city gardens.
