    The assasinaton of Archduke Franz Ferdinand sparked WWI. He was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip while in a parade. There are many speculations about how this event perspired.

    Big Bertha was a German Howitzer gun. It was a cross between a mortar, and a cannon. It would sit miles behind enemy lines, and move along the railroad tracks at night.

    Lane enlisted in the U.S Amry at the age of 16. He joined the calvary because the idea of horse riding intrigued him. He had done lots of reading on differnet and interesting things to do in the army.

    Eddi Rickenbacker, a former proffesional race car driver, became the United States' number one air combat pilot. He participated in 134 air battles, and shot down 80 enemy planes.

    Manfred von Ricthofen, better known as the Red Baron, was Germany's Ace pilot during WWI. He had a total of 80 victories in air combat. He was also known as the Ace-of-Aces.

    Was stationed in Fort McLellan, ALabama, there he was trained to become a Blue Devil, which at that time was the equvilent to an Army Ranger. He could not however travel overseas becasue he was not a citizen.

    Lane was traveling from base to base with two other soldiers, both American. While Lane was charged with being AWOL, the other two were not, this was to do his Jewish heritage.
