    His words finally get to the Roman Empire. The Romans noticed that people naturally followed certain laws, without being told to: they called this “Natural Law.” However, it was constantly trampled by powerful rulers.

    England creates the Magna Carta, when a King agrees that no-one can overrule the people’s rights, not even a king.
    1628: British Petition of Rights is created, finally recognizing human rights, keeping them safe from those in power.

    American Revolutionary War, battle against Great Britain. America was born.
  • America Declares Independence

    America Declares Independence from Great Britain, because Britain was still taking control of the colonies. America claimed: “All men are created Equal.”

    The French also created a list of rights, which was longer than the American one. They also claimed that these rights weren’t just “made up,” but “Natural.” The Roman concept of “Natural Law,” became “Natural Rights.”
