    Lewis spent his years as a boy learnign how to hunt and practice outdoor skills. His interests in this came from living so close to Cherokees territory. They taught him about medical herbs and berries.
  • Lewis joined the militia

    Lewis, upon graduation joined the militia in Virginia. He was sent to assit in putting down the Whiskey Rebellion.
  • Lewis was appointed by Jefferson

    Lewis was appointed by Jefferson to be his personal secretary. Lewis was a childhood protege of Jeffersons. They renewed their bonds years later while Lewis was on army duty in Charlottesville, Virginia.

    Lewis planned an exploration of a route to the Pacific coast of North America. During the journey, the expedition would also gain much valued knowladge of continential geography and wildlife. Congress approved the expedition, which would be first in series of military expeditions launched by the U.S government. Lewis was named the commander of the expedition.

    During the journey of the Corps Discovery, Lewis was able to use the discipline amd leadership skills he developed serving in the army.In Febuary 1804, while Lewis was attending ceremonies that transferred upper Louisiana to the United States. There had been some insubordination amoung the member of the Corps stationed for the winter back at Camp Dubois in the Illinios Territory.

    Lewis and Clark split up to explore more territory and to look for faster routes home. Lewis and his men faced great danger when a group of Black fleet Indians sought to steal their Corps in late July.

    Sacagawea and Charbonneau join the expedition. Sacagawea and her husband helped guide Lewis and Clark to the Pacific Ocean. She gave them food and was just very helpful at the time of their expedition. She didn't guide them all the way to the Pacific but without her they wouldnt have reached it.

    After his return from the expedition Lewis was appointed govenor of the Louisiana Territory by president Jefferson. Jefferson rewarded him with 1,600 acres of land. They also agreed to publish the Corps of Discovery Journals.

    With his journals in hand for publishing, Lewis set out to the capitol to assit in the resolution of bad drafts he had written as a govenor. His intentions were to travel by ship. Lewis eventually changed his mind and decided to travel overland.

    Lewis stopped at the inn for the night, had dinner, and left for his room. The innkeeper stated that gun shots were heard in the early morning. Lewis was found badly injured. He took his last breaths, at sunrise he was dead.

    Lewis passed away the day after being shot. He dyed at sunrise and is still remembered today. He was a good man and will be in memories.

    2 stamps were created with Lewis and Clark to commemorate the expedition. A booklet was created took readers on a journey of the expedition route. Lewis left behind a legacy and along with that plenty of military and scientific discoveries.
