This happened when Galveston was in its prime doing well as the leading port city. Until even the weather tools they had couldnt help them when a hurricane came in and destroyed the city. So they built a wall and they raised the city with sand. -
Spindletop
This was one of many oil rigs on spindle top, but it was the first one that got oil. On January 10, 1901 it blew and spewed out oil. Then later it became a oil feild known a Spindletop. -
The sinking of the Lusitania
The Lusitania was a passenger ship that held americans traveling over to Britian. The Germans told them that if they went into the war zone they would be comeing into the war. Then when they did they were shot down by a submarine. -
Zimmerman Letter
The Zimmerman letter was sent by the germans during World War 1. Which was trying to get Mexico to keep America out of the war. They promised that if they did they would give them the mexican sescesion back to them. -
The Great Depression
The Great Depression was first caused when the stock market crashed. Many people lost their money and their houses do to it, this caused 25% of Americas people unemployed. Also this didnt only effect the poor it effected the rich too. -
The Dust Bowl
The dust bowl happened because the people farmed and cut the land down. When they cut the land down there was nothing that stop the winds from lifting up the soil that created the dust storms. Also since they pulled out the plants their was nothing to bring up the water. -
Bombing of Pearl Harbor
The Bombing of Pearl Harbor is what dragged America into the war. The Japenese were sending peice talk but while the americans were talking to them about it the japanese were training fighters to blow up Pearl harbor. -
D-Day
D-Day was the turning pont for the war. It was when soldiers started to storm the banks of germany while being guned down by machine guns and troops. When they successfully took the banks they we able to invade germany.
