NARC National Association for Retarded Children
The National Association for retarded children was established in 1950. The program was gaged to support the development of those children with intellectual disabilities. In 1953 The Arc and the Association for the Aid of Crippled Children sponsored a conference on science program planning. The conference included the idea that organizations, like The Arc should be concerned with research to survey current research relevant to the causes of mental retardation.

The Bureau for the Education of handicapped
The Bureau was created in 1966.The Bureau brought together parents, professionals, and state and national leaders together in order to help children with special needs. In addition, It created Public Law 94-142, also known as The education for all children handicapped Act. -

Retarded Citizen V Commonwealth- PARC
Pennsylvania Association of retarded children vs Commonwealth of Virginia; PARC argued against the law, stating that a child must be at a mental age of 5 years old in order to begin school. Through PARC vs Commonwealth of Virginia, the state will now provided free education for mental children up to the age of 21 -
Mills V. Board of Education of District of Colombia
This case set a precedent that an education should be given to all mental children no matter their financial capabilities. Reinforce the right for all children with mental disabilities a right of education. -
Rehablilation Act 93-112
The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires access to programs and activities that are funded by Federal agencies and to Federal employment. The law also established the Access Board (section 502). -
Public Law 92-142
This Act instilled the responsibilities for parent involvement, Free appropriate public education(FAPE), Individualized education program(IEP), Least restrictive environment, and nondiscriminatory test. -
ADA- Americans with Disabilities
Passed by Congress in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is the nation's first comprehensive civil rights law addressing the needs of people with disabilities, prohibiting discrimination in employment, public services, public accommodations, and telecommunications. -
IDEA 2004
A federal Law which created and governs special education. It entitles eligible children with disabilities with specially designed instruction and individualized services that supports their need to benefit from a free public education.
