Binet-Simon Scale Comes to America.
Henry Goddard, after researching in France with Binet and Simon, brings their series of tests for measuring intelligence to the United States. This series of tests revolutionized the field of test-taking psychology by representing a child's IQ by a numerical value. Although this scale was originally developed by Binet and Simon to identify children of below average intelligence so that they could be given separate educational serves, it was soon used to identify gifted children. -

The Birth of the Gifted Education Program
At Columbia University, Leta Hollingworth publishes "Gifted Children: Their Nature and Narture", which is considered the first textbook on gifted education. Born in a shack in Nebrasksa, Hollingwirth was gited and became an East coast academian. She helped build the gifted education program by working with gifted children and not merely identifying their "IQ's". -

The Cold War is thrust into full swing when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the first man-made sattelite, In response to this, the United States increased its efforts in identifying gifted and talented youths and investing in developing their skills in math, science, and technology programming. -

Due to global competeition, the US Department of Education publishes "National Excellence: The Case for Identifying America's Talent", a report that would influence the field of gifted education throughout the next decade. -
National Gifted Standards
The National Association for Gifted Children establishes a nationwide standard for gifted education by publishing national gifted education standards as well as skill and knowledge standards for gifted children. The NAGC revised these standards in 2013.
