The "Bet"
The Back story of film/ movies started with a bet placed by Muybridge saying that a horse moving at full speed has all of its feet are lifted off the ground at the same time. Like any bet you have to prove what you have said or done is true with evidence. Muybridge placed cameras to record his finding leading to the discovery of filming. -
A Kinetoscope Parlor(1895)
One of the very first movie theaters that where placed so that the public had access to Muybridge findings. The devices known as "Kinetoscope's" allowed a single person to watch the film(at a price) There was one major flaw this lackluster device suffered it only seated one person at a time. -
"The Great Train Robbery"
Directed by Edwin Porters "The great train robbery" was considered the first "Real" movie for it being the first to have a actually plot and Story line behind it. It had about 14 scenes and lasted around 12 minutes long. -
The Rise of the filming industry
By 1910 the nickelodeon theaters attracted over 26-million viewers each week. These outstanding numbers attracted those who saw the potential of big profits by Creating a monopoly to have control over everything. -
Thomas Edison's peephole kinetoscope
Thomas Edison saw this as an opportunity to make money by selling his invention to the parlors he thought that bye making it so that only one person at a time could watch the movie he would make more money. -
Lumiere Brothers
The lumiere brothers did what Thomas Edison didn't want to do they Created/invented their own "Projector" called the cinematography. in 1895 they started producing a series of short films that where basic and lasted between 30 to 60 seconds. -
Vaudeville's
small theaters that showed skits and routines. first they would show a 30 second film than people would come out on stage and perform until the next film comes up or until they were booed of stage. -
"Nickelodeons"
In order to get one-up on the competition they introduced short films and for one nickel you would be able to watch the short films creating the name "Nickelodeons". They were small storefront-type theaters that had films with Piano and sound effects along side with two Vaudeville acts. -
Thomas Edison and the Dirty (MPPC)
led by Edison himself him and several other companies formed the MPPC or known as the Motion Picture Patents Company they controlled every thing in the filming industry Ex) Raw film stock, Projection equipment, and film distribution and exhibition etc.... -
The (MPPC) Dirty scheme
Of course you know other independent compaines tried to compete with Edison and the (MPPC) but they didn't like competition so the MPPC raided the studios By breaking there equipment and by hurting/roughing up a little or Threatening them. -
Southern California More like Paradise
The main reason sunny California is the go to place in the hollywood acting scene is because back in the day was because it took a lot of sun light to accommodate for the slow speed of the films to be ready and also with the Ability to escape from the MPPC destruction if you where a independent studios. -
Hollywood Super Stars
The independent studios saw things differently from the MPPC they wanted to make people famous so that they could more people pay to see there favorite actor/actresses They saw the advantages of developing superstars.
