    Boston Latin School becomes the first public school as well as the oldest existing school in the U.S.

  • Oberlin Collegiate Institute

    In 1833 the first co-ed college was opened. At this time there were 44 students, which included 29 men and 15 women.
  • Education required till age 10

    In 1880 there was an act passed that required students to attend school till age of ten.
