3 Landmark Cases
3 landmark cases that influenced special education -
Brown v. Board of Education (1954)
This case found that former case Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) which allowed segregation under the term “separate but equal” violated the 14th Amendment, thus declaring that State sanctioned segregation, other discriminatory laws and practices imposed by federal, state, and local government to be unconstitutional. This ruling mandated that children with special needs were to be treated and offered the same educational experience as all other students.
