Britain started to get crowded at this time. Many people had to live on the streets because they had no homes. People were also losing their jobs, rent was getting higher and people just couldn't pay them. Some people started stealing things and got sent to jail. -

The American Revolutionary War, also referred to The American War of Independence was a war between Britain and America. They had this war because America didn't appreciate how Britain was sending their convicts to them. -
Captain Cook Landed
When Captain Cook arrived in Australia he travelled on a ship called the HM Endeavour. Cook claims the land to be British and also names the eastern Australia New South Wales. -

In the end of the war America ended up winning so Britain had to find a new place for convicts to be sent and they found Australia. -
First Fleet Arrival in Australia
The First Fleet came to Australia with 736 convicts travelling from England to Botany Bay to set up a penal colony. -
New South Wales was officially owned by the British
On the 26th of January Captain Arthur Phillip and some British colonists hoisted the Union Flag at Sydney Cove in New South Wales and now that date is Australia Day. -
The free settlers came
In the year of 1793 the free settlers came. They got told that Australia was a beautiful place and they even got servants, famers and cooks which were the convicts. -
Western Australia has been found!
Captain James Stirling established the colony in Western Australia. -
South Australia is discovered
Governor Hindmarsh established Australia and took the free settlers from Kangaroo Island to Holdfast bay to proclaim South Australia British land.
