    Montresor is mad with hatred for Fortunato because he does not treat him as an equal.

    The narrator, Montresor, meets the drunck Fortunato at the festival.

    Montresor gets brought into the house to "taste" The Amontillado, a new wine Fortunado made.
  • Event Number 3

    Montresor and Fortunado go into the catacombs.
  • Event Number 4

    They travel through the catacombs, drinking alcohol, the wine, while the narrator constantly warns Fortunato about the mold.

    The narrator shows Fortunato his trowel, a small hand-held tool with a flat, pointed blade, used to apply and spread mortar or plaster.
  • Event Number 6

    Event Number 6
    They both arrive at the end of the catacombs, while Fortunado is drunck and Montresor is sober so he can get his revenge.
  • The Climax

    The Climax
    The climax is when Montresor surprises Fortunato by chaining him to the wall, thereby ending the suspense of whether or not Fortunato will get away. Once Fortunato is in chains, we know Montresor's revenge is almost complete.
  • The Falling Action

    The Falling Action
    The falling action is where Montresor builds the brick wall, shouts back and forth at Fortunato and tosses the torch into the niche to see if Fortunato is still alive.
  • The Resolution

    The Resolution
    The resolution occurs when Montresor finishes telling the story of the murder of Fortunato by saying that Fortunato has remained within the bricked room in the cellar undisturbed for the past fifty years.
