1974

Helen Longino is well known amongst many feminist and scientific organizations. She is ranked highly among some of the greatest female minds of this era. Her influence in feminism stems from her firm stance that most of the ‘community of knowers’ were ignoring not only matters of sex, but also race. She noted that many were white, western, heterosexual men. This led her to begin her work in reclaiming the field of science.

Release of first book

1990

In 1990- she released her first book entitled ‘ Science as Social Knowledge: Values and Objectivity in Scientific Inquiry.’ This established her in the field of philosophy well. She has since been recognized for her writings and has led a new era of feminist theory in a largely male dominated field of study.

2001

Released the book “The fate of knowledge” Helen Longino ‘ critically analyzes the dichotomous understanding of the rational and the social that characterizes both sides of the science studies stalemate and the social account that she sees as necessary for an epistemology of science that includes the full spectrum of cognitive processes.’ Not only does she tackle issues of feminist theory but also addresses the issue with science vs. social influence.
