    The Brady family have a family store. George and Hana go to school at the time, when they are free they will help their family working in the store. Hana and George's job is to make sure that all the shelves are stocked and clean. They have a happy time with their family. George and Hana are the only children in Nove Mesto, Czechoslovakia. Hana and George is also the only children in Auschwitz.

Also in April 1933, The Nazi boycotts against the Jewish population begins, and in September 1935 the anti-Semitic Nuremberg Laws are passed in Reichstag, the German Parliament Building. As a result, Jewish people lose their citizenship and civil rights in Germany.

    On March 15 1939, The Nazis marched into Czechoslovakia and declare the Jewish people evil and a bad influence; from now on the Brady family has to live by different rules. Jewish people were only allowed to leave their homes at certain hours of the day due to travel restrictions. This meant no more visiting with family members outside of town.     Fall 1938. After the Munich Agreement, Hitler’s forces annexed the border region of Czechoslovakia. New Year of 1938, George and Hana eavesdrop on their parents and neighbors listen to the news on their father’s radio. At the end of the news broadcast the adults discuss the Nazis and their treatments of the Jewish population.

    Jewish people are restricted to shopping at a few stores at certain hours of the day. The Brady's were forced to tell the Nazis about everything they owned – art, jewelry, bankbooks. The Nazis confiscated their father’s radio.

    One day, Hana called George and Hana to go to the living room and told them the bad news, her mother just told them that their mom is just going on a trip. But when she lives, never came back.

After all, Hana and George are orphan. Their dad only told them that he is going to a very nice place and told them to take good care of themselves.

    Fumiko was trying to contract George for bringing some of Hana's drawing and if he can explain how he escaped from Auschwitz and how he came to Toronto
