Gold Licence

There were more civilized laws for the gold rush so they introduced a licence and gold commissioners on each gold field so the government could watch the miners.

Governor Charles

Governor Charles Hotham arrives in Victoria. He was in the navy and an officer.

"Welcome Nugget"

The "Welcome Nugget" was found at the Bakery Hill in Ballart, Victoria. The chunk of gold weighed 2217 ounces which is 62850.89 grams or 62 kilograms.

Gold Discovered in Queensland

1866

Gold is discovered in Rockhampton, Queensland. The discovery of gold there helped reduce the economic depression.

"Welcome Stranger"

The "Welcome Stranger" was discovered by John Deason and Richard Oates. It is the world's largest gold nugget, found in Victoria. It weighs 71.01 kilograms.
