Before Apollo 11

The plan before the mission
In January of 1969 NASA made the first public announcement of the mission Apollo 11, Neil Armstrong was assigned to be commander of the mission. Apollo 11 left from Florida's Cape Canaveral and many people camped there to watch the launch on July 16, 1969. -

As the commander of the mission Neil Armstrong piloted the Lunar Module to the moon's surface on July 20, 1969. At 10:56 pm when he touched the moon said: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". -

Armstrong and Aldrin together explored the moon during 2 hours and 36 minutes. they collected 48.5 pounds of material at the surface and 50 types of moon rocks. -

Armstrong after touching the moon still was working for the NASA. He was a deputy associate administrator for aeronautics. -

Passed Away
Two days after Armstrong turned 82 years old the famed moon walker underwent coronary bypass surgery. From complications of that surgery he died.
