Dr. Kwame Nkrumah becomes the first President of Ghana. He helped lead Ghana to its independence from Britain and then became President in 1960. -

This is the supreme law of Ghana. It is still in use today. They had a national vote where 92% voted for it. -

Jerry became president in 1993 and was until 2001. He was head of state before and was extremely popular. -
Trokosi System is outlawed
This system was a traditional practice in Ghana. Girls would become slaves to the gods in payment for the misdeeds of her family. Ghanaian parliament bans all forms of this. -
John Kufuor
John Kufuor became president of Ghana. He was president until January 7th, 2009. -
Ghana discovers oil
Ghana's Jubilee Oilfield and many other oilfields were discovered in Ghana. Now oil is one of Ghana's major exports. -
Barack Obama visits Ghana
Barack Obama visited Ghana. Ghana was the first country in the Sub-Saharan to be visited by him. -
Production of oil officially begins
Oil was discovered in 2007 in Ghana, but they officially started production on offshore oil in 2010. -
Chinese nationals arrested in Ghana
In 2013 the Ghanaian government arrested 168 Chinese nationals on suspicion of illegal gold mining. -
Floods in Accra
Heavy rainfall and poor planning of land in Ghana resulted in flooding in Accra. At least 25 people died directly from the flood.
