  • The Old Regime

    The Old Regime
    France was divided by estates: The first estate owned 10% of the land and contributed 2% in taxes. The second estate paid little or no taxes, they were the nobles and they were 2% of the population and owned 20% of the land. The third estate was about 97% of the population and they didn't have much privilages.
  • The Economy Started Declining

    The Economy Started Declining
    This alarmed the factory owners and the merchants because the cost of living increased by a lot and couldn't afford to grow crops The price of bread doubled so many people couldn't afford it and starved.
  • The Meeting at Versalles

    The Meeting at Versalles
    King Louis faced bancrupcy and resolved his problem by increasing taxes on the people. The Second Estate forced him to to make a meeting with representatives from the three estates.
  • Voting for the National Assembly

    Voting for the National Assembly
    The Third Estate decided to end the monacrchy and start a democracy. Three days later, they broke down the door to a tennis court pledging to stay there untill they had a constitution. This is called the Tennis Court Oath.
  • Bastille

    Bastille
    A mob of people seraching for arms and gunpowder takes down a prision, Bastille. They gained control over the prison and a few people died. This was a very simbolic day for the French.
  • Feudalism Ends

    Feudalism Ends
    One of the most conmemorable events in the French Revolution. People wanted juatice and overall equality and to remove the favoritism of the first and second estate.. The previous government France had, was completly abolished thanks to the people and their protests. The highacrhy was not happy, but the third estate (poor people) were.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen

    Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen
    This is where people were starting to be happy. This was approved by the National Assembly of France in 1789 and it was created after the unfairness French people had gone through. The new laws and rules created included fairness for men since the day they are born. There was also liberty of speaking and writing what ever they wanted. Even if it was against the first estate people.
  • The Bread Riots

    The Bread Riots
    In the French Revolution, bread was a big part of someone´s diet. Angry women went to protest against the bakers so they would sell the bread at a better price. These protests were usually not violent, but they sure made the bakers mad.
  • The New Constitution is Created

    The New Constitution is Created
    Put in place by the National Assembly on the 30th of September, 1791. A new constitution was created after the fall of the Absolute Monarchy. When drafting the constitution, two members from the First Estate, two from the Second Estate and four from the Thid Estate where part of the process.
  • Monarchy is Abolished

    Monarchy is Abolished
    The Legislative Assembly voted to eliminate the absolute monarchy and start a new form of governmnt. Power was removed from King Louis XVI and he was later beheaded along with his wife, Marie Antoniette.
