  • Meeting of the Estates General

    Louis XVI called together the Estates General. Which is a French congress that is made up of the three estates. It caused the third estate to revolt because they felt that they deserved liberty.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    People armed with muskets and cannons forced Laundry and his men to surrender. During the storm they freed seven prisoners of the Bastille. It provided the French Revolution with an unstoppable momentum.
  • Decleration of the Rights of Man and Citizen

    This declaration was a document that stated the rights of individuals. It was very important during the French Revolution. It united people of different social classes.

    Gens De Colour demand equal rights from France

    Gens De Colour demand for Free-Colored equality. In 1792, the Legislative Assembly treated men of color as equal citizens. In June 1794, forces recaptured Guadeloupe and abolished slavery.
  • March on Versailles

    Women demanding bread went to Versailles and persuaded the King to distribute bread. The King left with his wife and children to Paris. The King would never see Versailles again.
  • The colony "Saint-Domingue" is abolished

    Enslaved Africans in Saint-Domingue were fed up with the harsh living conditions. The slave owners treated the slaves very harshly. Finally, slaves attacked the plantation buildings and killed hundreds of European men and women.
  • The French National Assembly granted free blacks full rights in Saint-Domingue

    The Legislative assembly gave political rights to free blacks. Slaves continued to rebel against the plantation owners. The slaves reduced plantation production to 1/5 of what it was before.
  • Beheading of King Louis the XIV

    King Louis the XIV was on trial and found guilty. He was executed by decapitation from the guillotine. Because of the death of King Louis, a war was declared in England by the National Convention.

    The Reign of Terror

    The Reign of Terror was a way to discipline enemies of the French Revolution such as nobles and priests. The Committee of Public Safety used the Reign of Terror to establish control over the French Government. During this time period thousands of people were executed.
  • French Forces Admit defeat to the slave armies and evacuate their forces

    Because of the extreme death of men and lose of territory, French forces evacuate. Slaves were now free from their slave owners. 50,000 French men were killed in the battles.
  • Napoleon is Emperor

    Napoleon was a great military officer. He was the first Frenchmen to be emperor in a thousand years. He established the Napoleonic code and the French empire.
