    After world war 2 Russia and the U.S. could finally look at each other and see that they were enemies. The Capitalist America and the Communist Russia realized that now Hitler was defeated they could fight each other. the beginning of the cold war was a economic war because the main reason for the cold war was because of the Capitalists vs Communists.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    Greece and Turkey were danger of falling to communist insurgents.
    Truman requested $400 million from Congress in aid to both countries.it was a success. what he did was Geographic in the sense that it was done to stop the spread of communism. Truman Believed in the Domino effect which said that is one country fell to communism then others will soon follow. the Truman Doctrine was a big success in the fight against communism.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    From June 1948 to May 1949, U.S. and British planes airlift 1.5 million tons of supplies to the residents of West Berlin. they preformed 200,000 flights before the Soviet Union stopped the blockade of Berlin. it was very psychological, they needed to provide food and services to the people stuck behind the blockade to keep them happy and hopeful for the future.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was a plan to provide Europe with massive financial aid to help rebuild from World War 2. The Soviet Union and Eastern Communist declined the help. The U.S. gave $13 billion of aid between 1948 and 1952. The Marshall Plan was a social Plan because it was to help strengthen relationships in Europe. The Marshall Plan caused the creation of Comecon.
  • Comecon

    Comecon
    Comecon is an acronym for Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. It was the Soviet Union's response to the Marshall Plan. it was created to provide aid to developing communist countries so that they would not take American money. The Comecon was a cultural thing because it would help advance the communist culture around the world. This did not do much to help any communist country however.
  • NATO

    NATO
    NATO is also an acronym, it stands for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. it was created so that if one country needed help every other country in NATO would help them. sort of like the treaties of World War 1. NATO was a political agreement because it made sure that everyone in NATO would help out anyone in need who was a part of NATO, ensuring political fallout for any country who did not follow the agreements of NATO. NATO the caused the Soviet Union to create the Warsaw Pact.
  • The Vietnam War

    Soviet Russia gave aid and support to the North Vietnamese and the U.S. have aid and support to the south Vietnamese. The war was a very big topic for discussion when it was in its peak. People i the U.S. did not all agree on providing the south Vietnamese with troops and people also did not like the draft. in 1975 the U.S. pullout of the war and let the south Vietnamese fight it out themselves. later on the north Vietnamese won.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact was the Soviet equivalent to NATO. But instead of joining being voluntary for NATO it was forced in the Warsaw Pact. The Soviet Union forced 7 countries to join. if you left it was seen as disloyal. The 7 countries basically acted as a buffer if anyone wanted to fight Russia. It was very political just like NATO. It was political because the Russians forced 7 different country's governments to comply with it.

    Boris Yeltsin became the first Russian president in 1991. He made a coup against the Russian president of the USSR, Gorbachev. it was successful and he resigned. allowing Boris Yeltsin to become the first president of Russia.

    Interview with my mom
    In my interview with my mother, she answered questions 1,7 and 9. she thinks of bomb shelters and Ronald Regan and space race when asked about the cold war. she thought that the soviet union were scary and bad and treated their people poorly during the cold war. Her dad worked in the USS Dolphin and was in charge of the sonar equipment. The cold war scared everyone and changed many people's lives. My Grandpa (my mom's dad) chased a Russian sub around the Atlantic coast till he went away.
