University of Alabama Intergration
In the film, Forrest attended the University of Alabama during the Stand in the Schoolhouse door by governor George Wallace. Black people tried to intergrate the school and the students tried to block them from entering. The watergate scandal was when five men broke into a American building and stole files. This was depicted in the movie by Forrest Gump calling nixion and saying that he was kept awake by the flash lights. Nixion then called back and said he was able to move him to a better room. Hurricane Carmen
During this time in the movie, gump was starting bubbagump shrimping company and couldn't get any shrimp. Then hurricane Carmen hit and brought in all the shrimp. He was also the only shrimp boat still alive to catch shrimp so he was very prosperous. Hurricane Carmen was the most intense tropical cyclone that hit that hurricane season. In the movie after Forrest was sent back home from the Vietnam war he started to play ping pong and became a member of the All American Ping Pong Team. The Ping Pong Diplomacy was a three day event held at the Richard Nixion Presidential library and museum in Yoruba Linda, California.
