On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama. This single act of nonviolent resistance sparked the Montgomery bus boycott. Liberty Bell moves behind Independence Hall
The Liberty Bell rang first in 1776 to celebrate the Declaration of Independence. It was hung in Independence Hall and cracked after it was first rung. It was moved to behind Independence Hall in 1976. -
Shooting of John Lennon
John Lennon was shot Monday, December 8,1980 by Mark David Chapman in New York City. John Lennon was a singer-songwriter who co-founded the Beatles. He had just returned from Record Plant Studio with his wife, and he was pronounced dead on arrival at Roosevelt Hospital after sustaining four gunshot wounds. -
Reagan is shot in the chest
President Ronald Reagan was outside of the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. when John Hinckley shot him. After addressing the Building and Construction Workers Union of the AFL-CIO, Reagan was shot shot by a revolver with revolving bullets from ten feet away. The first few shots hit the press secretary, a police officer, and a Secret Service agent. The last shot hit the president’s limo and went into his chest.
