  • Civil Rights- Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat

    On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama. This single act of nonviolent resistance sparked the Montgomery bus boycott.   • Elvis Presley is drafted into the Army

  • Counterculture

    Counterculture was a subculture whose values and norms of behavior were different from those of mainstream society. During the 1960s, counterculture mainly attracted students. They became the driving force behind the civil rights and anti war movements.
  • Peace Corps made in D.C.

    The Peace Corps was issued as a Cold War program. It was put in place to help impoverished third world countries. They built things like sewers water systems and schools.
  • George Wallace takes his oath of office as the governor of Alabama

  • Segregation

  • Boom in cocaine and heroin market

    In the 1970s , there was a huge boom in drug use. Specifically the drugs cocaine and heroin were major drugs. Everyone jumped on the wagon and began using these which also caused more HIV around. https://youtu.be/FPoOUWI0jDg
  • Roe vs. Wade

    Roe was sued for the right to a legal abortion. She won because the court ruled that abortion fell under the privacy clause. This was a big step for women's rights. https://youtu.be/glgDZN3p1wM
  • Liberty Bell moves behind Independence Hall

    The Liberty Bell rang first in 1776 to celebrate the Declaration of Independence. It was hung in Independence Hall and cracked after it was first rung. It was moved to behind Independence Hall in 1976.
  • Shooting of John Lennon

    John Lennon was shot Monday, December 8,1980 by Mark David Chapman in New York City. John Lennon was a singer-songwriter who co-founded the Beatles. He had just returned from Record Plant Studio with his wife, and he was pronounced dead on arrival at Roosevelt Hospital after sustaining four gunshot wounds.
  • Reagan is shot in the chest

    President Ronald Reagan was outside of the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. when John Hinckley shot him. After addressing the Building and Construction Workers Union of the AFL-CIO, Reagan was shot shot by a revolver with revolving bullets from ten feet away. The first few shots hit the press secretary, a police officer, and a Secret Service agent. The last shot hit the president’s limo and went into his chest.
