On January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis Aaron Presley was born. He is the man to spark the Rock and Roll Era in the 1950's. He became a singer of Rock of Roll and was called "the King of Rock and Roll" or the "King" for short. -
Vietnam War
Started in November 1, 1955, North Vietnam fought South Vietnam to spread communism with the help of the Solvent Union and other places that like communism. Also the United States and other places that don't like communism helped out South Vietnam. So the reason the US helped them is because of containment(to stop the spread of communism). But in the end, the US stopped helping South Vietnam and North Vietnam won at April 30, 1975,this was the war that caused the most american deaths in history. -
Intergration of Alabama University
A Federal district court in Alabama made the university of Alabama take in two African-America students Vivien Malone and James Hood in summer. Governor Wallace block the door himself for a while until Kennedy called in the national guard. This made everyone see Wallace as part of the white resistance. -
Black Panthers
People like Martin Luther King Jr. and NAACP try to get civil rights in a peaceful way. Except that some African Americans want to defend themselves from white people. So another organization called the Black Panthers was made on late October 1966 and they try to get civil rights too but they use violence for self defense. -
Anti-War Protest in D.C.
Many people in America are tried of hearing that many American soldiers are dying at Vietnam every night. This caused many protests against war throughout American but the biggest one happened in Washington D.C. Thousands of people protest against war in D.C. at October 21, 1967, the protest inspired new music in the 1970's. -
Moon Landing
Ever since the Soviets launched the Sputnik 1 to space at 1957, the Americans wants to reach space faster than the Soviets and it became the Space Race. So the Americans started research to get a man on the moon and one day, it happened. On July 20 ,1969, a ship called the Apollo 11 made it to the moon and someone named Neil Armstrong was the first man to step on the moon. -
Kent State Student Massacre
So one day on a MONDAY, in Kent State University in a place called Kent in Ohio, college students were protesting against the Cambodian Campaign. Later on someone called in the Ohio National Guard and they SHOOT the unarmed students!!! They KILLED 4 students, wounded 9 of them and one poor guy got paralysis from the bullets and messed up his life. -
Hurricane Carmen
As you can tell from the title it's about a very destructive hurricane called Hurricane Carmen. It first started to form in Africa then traveled west to the Carribean Sea and continue on to the Gulf of Mexico. Afterwards it went up north and then became a Category 4 hurricane caused damage on New Orleans, Louisiana and Texas and stopped in September 10, 1974. -
Creation of Apple Corp.
It all started with Steve Jobs and Steven Wozniak and they are great friends, also both if them like technology. Wozniak made a computer and both of them try to sell it and it become the first Apple Computer. The business wasn't good until 1977, it was the beginning of a really big corperation that we will buy from and use their technology for everyday use in the future. -
Discovery of AIDS(HIV)
It's uncertain when AIDS(acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) began infecting people but medical science was getting better from new technology. In 1983, researchers found the cause of AIDS, its was a virus called Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV). It causes the immune system to weaken and infection can get you. There's no cure but today's medical science help you live a long healthy life with HIV and AIDS.
