A direct confrontation between the U.S. and the soviet Union due to the Soviet union placing weapons and missiles in Cuba. This conflict was resolved with a treaty that made the USSR remove the missiles from Cuba and and made the Us promise to never attack Cuba and remove missiles from around the soviet union.
