First Reconstruction

  • Integration of State

    Virginia is the first to be integrated into the Union after the Civil War. The rest f the states would follow.
  • Freedmans Bureau

    Congress established an act in 1865 which would allow former slaves have a shelter, medical services, and many more for displaced former slaves. Of course this was vetoed by President Johnson, along with the Civil Rights Act of 1866
  • Linocln's Assasination

    incoln is hsot at a theatere by Booth. Here ends all the plans Lincoln had for reconstruction. His vice president, Andrew Johnson, would follow through Lincoln's plans for reconstruction.
  • Ratification of 13 ammendament

    This ammendament makes slavery or indentured servitude illegal in the United States. All 3.5 million slaves would now be free and integrated into society.

    Civil Rights Act of 1866

    This act gave any citizen the right to vote under the federal law. It also protected sformer slaves from other state laws that could be inplaced gainst them, like the black codes. This act was first vetoed by President Johnson, but then ratified in 1870.
  • Reconstruction Act of 1867

    This divided SOuthern territory into 5 millitary districts, excpet Tenesse because they ratified the 14th ammendament. Troops would be sent to ensure African AMericans are voting, and treated "equally".. Troops were not removed fro the districts until the states 10% of population where loyal to the Union and ratified the 14th ammendament.

    President Johnson's Impeachment

    It was aw that the president could not fire the memebers of office without the consent of Congress. Johnson does this, and Congress decides to impeach him. However, he is not removed from office. Congress needed one vote to remove Johnson from office.
  • Ratification of 14th ammendament

    This ammendament now made the 3.5 million slaves citizens of the United States. This also says that anyone born or naturlaized in the United States, will be considered a citizen.
  • Ratification of 15th ammendament

    This ammendament granted any man the right to vote. Any man could vote regardless of skin color, as long they are citizens of the United States. No state or federal govenrment could stp slaves from voting from now on.
  • Compromise of 1877

    This compromise would be because of a close elction between Ruther B. Hayes, a republican, and democrtaic apponent. Democrats would allow Hayes to become president, only if he would make the last troops in the SOuth leave. Hayes does so, and ends the Reconstruction era.
