Magic Lantern
During the early 1800s, the popularity of the Magic Lantern began to incease. It was used at all dinner parties held during this time period. The Magic Lantern was the product of scientific experimentation. -
First Motion Picture
Eadweard Muybridge began experimened with capturing moving images. He set up 12 cameras along a race track, with strings attached to the shutters, so when a horse runs into the strings, the camera takes a picture. -
Invention of the Reel
George Eastman and William H. Walker created what is considered the very first reel in exhistance. The film was comprised of paper with a geletin emulsion. -
Kintegrapg and Kintescope
Thomas Eddison invented these two machines. The kintegraph was engineered to take a picture every half second. The resulting images could then be used in his other invention, the kintescope. -
Cinematic Time
There was a movie created about a train robbery. It used many techniques such as cross-cuts and parallel editing. It was directed by Edwin S. Porter. -
Editing
This technique was used to make movies seem more story like. It was essentially a dolly that moved closer to the object being filmed. It was first used in the film "Photographing of a Female Cook" -
Nikelodeon Era
During this time, movies could be viewed for the price of 5 cents. It increased general apeal of movies to the public. They didnt have to go to private homes to watch movies anymore. -
Hollywood
The early 1920s began the rise of Hollywood as a city where many movie filmings took place. During this time, more than 800 movies were made a year. -
War
During WW2, Hollywood helped create advertisements for men to enlist. Also, it created advertisements for women to join the workforce as men left to go fight. Alongside the advertisements were propaganda films that encouraged people to enlist. -
VHS
This marked the beginning of the Home Video Revolution. The HVR was when people could start viewing movies in their private homes with a VCR. This created the VHS/VCR industry. -
DVDs and CDs
The first ones were introduced to stores in the 1990s. The images or movies they contained were sharper, and they could contain special features. After a few years, videotapes would come to an end.
