Sir Henry Parkes was many things-politician, premier of N.S.W, a poet, journalist, newspaper owner and even a federationist .Sir Henry Parkes is the youngest of seven children, He had 3 wives and seventeen children. He is the first to have the idea to federate.

He had earlier been a leader of the movement for Australian federation. He joined the first federal parliament along with Sir Henry Parkes.

    In 1881, Henry Parkes proposed to a Federal Council to consider matters of a joint interest to the Australian Colonies. On January 1st 1901 Australia federated. Australia needed Britain's approval for Australia to federate. Eventually Britain gave permission to Australia.
