    Tojo greatly supported Hirohito's reign but this was mearly a guise as the emperor was mostly just a figurehead. Tojo was the minister of war. He was executed for his crimes in 1948.

    General Nogi was a great war hero to the Japanese people. Along with his wife, he committed suicide in order to follow his "great lord", the Meiji Emperor. This was seen as an incredibly admirable act to the public. This was played off Japanese literature. Martyrdom.

    Hirohito inherited very little power as emperor and came to power in a time of corrupted officials. Hitohito was basically just a figurehead and was unable to make many major decisions as the forces who backed him were the ones who made most of the choices.

    Japan invades China before it can properly unify in an attempt to create a new order. Japan wins but loses tens of thousands of men.

    Angered by their losses, Japan decides to take out their anger. Over the course of 6 weeks, Japanese army in Nanjing murders 40,000-300,000 unarmed combatents and civilians. Amry perpetrated widespread rape and looting.
