    first exolration

    Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan led the first circumnavigation of the globe (1519-1521).
  • 1498

    second exploration

    John Cabot's Second Voyage
    In February 1498, the king issued letters patent for the second voyage, and that May Cabot set off from Bristol with about five ships and 200 men. The exact fate of the expedition has not been established, but by July one of the ships had been damaged and sought anchorage in Ireland
  • 1502

    Third exploration

    On May 11, 1502, Christopher Columbus set out on his fourth and final voyage to the New World with a fleet of four ships. His mission was to explore uncharted areas to the west of the Caribbean in hopes of finding a passage to the Orient
  • 1521

    Fourth explorer

    1521 – Cristóvão Jacques explores the Plate River and discovers the Parana River, entering it for about 23 leagues (around 140 km), to near the present city of Rosario.
