    In western Europe, there is a long-lost map discovered that had been drawn by the geographer Ptolomy. As far as anyone is concerned, it is the best map in the world. This map sparked the idea for Columbus that he could sail from Europe west and hit the coast of Asia. This map was misleading, but still the best of its day.
