Victoria came to the throne 20 june 1837, after the death of William IV. She was 18 years old and she reigned for more than 60 years. -

Slavery was abolished on 1st August 1838, many slaves were freed and their owners received about £20 million by the government for the lost of their slaves. -

In September 1845, the potato crops started to rot all over Ireland while these crops had provided approximately 60% of the Irish's food needs. -

The death of Prince Albert
On this day, Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, died at the age of 42 of a typhoïd. This event plunged Queen Victoria into a long period of mourning. -
The Second Reform Act
The Second Reform Act became law on 15th August 1867 and it doubled the number of electors in the electorate. -
Victoria, new Empress of India
Firstly, India was under control of Britain in 1876.
Victoria was proclaimed empress after the suggestion of the Conservative Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli.
