  • The Victoria's ascension to the throne

    Victoria came to the throne 20 june 1837, after the death of William IV. She was 18 years old and she reigned for more than 60 years.
  • Slavery's Abolition in the British Empire

    Slavery was abolished on 1st August 1838, many slaves were freed and their owners received about £20 million by the government for the lost of their slaves.
  • The Irish potato famine

    In September 1845, the potato crops started to rot all over Ireland while these crops had provided approximately 60% of the Irish's food needs.
  • The Great Exhibition opening

    This event was organized for the first time in 1851 at the Crystal Palace, in Hyde Park (London).
  • The Crimean War

    This war began in 1853. Britain and France faced Russia.
  • "The Origin of the Species"

    The book published in 1859 was written by Charles Darwin, who was a famous naturalist.
  • The death of Prince Albert

    On this day, Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, died at the age of 42 of a typhoïd. This event plunged Queen Victoria into a long period of mourning.
  • The Second Reform Act

    The Second Reform Act became law on 15th August 1867 and it doubled the number of electors in the electorate.
  • Victoria, new Empress of India

    Firstly, India was under control of Britain in 1876.
    Victoria was proclaimed empress after the suggestion of the Conservative Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli.
