    In St. Petersburg, a group of military officials rebelled because they felt threatened by the Czar's conservative views. The Czar at the time was Czar Nicholas I.

    Serfs were people who worked for an owner and therefore were given some shelter and food. Serfdom held Russia back from progress, and there weren't enough factory workers.

    A period of repression led to revolutionary terrorism and Alexander's death. He was killed in St. Petersburg form a thrown bomb. The terrorists who threw the bomb wanted to end czarist autocracy.

    This was the first great war of the 20th century. It was a war between Russia and Japan over the area of Manchuria and Korea.

    This revolution began with Bloody Sunday. There were many strikes, riots, and assassinations. Popular demands involving work conditions caused this strike.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    A group of workers led by Georgy Apollonovich Gapon marched to Czar Nicholas II's palace in St. Petersburg. They peacefully made demands but were fired upon by soldiers. About 100 people were killed and many wounded.

    Russia was on the allied side, and they did terribly. There weren't enough guns, equipment, or food for the men. During this time, Gregory Rasputin was helping Alexandra lead the country.

    This took place during the February Revolution. The Czar was forced to abdicate the throne by Petrograd insurgents. A provincial government took his place.

    Workers went on strike for better wages and work conditions. Nicholas II ordered his soldiers to stop the riots right away which involved people being killed and just made the riots worse.
