    A political protest to the stamp acts. The colonists did not want to pay a tax on British tea following the Tea Act of 1773. A group of colonists in Massachusetts disguised themselves as Indians and boarded three British tea ships. They dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor.

  • First Continental Congress

    In the spring of 1774, after parliament passed laws to punish the colonists, it called for a meeting of the delegates from every colony except Georgia. Many important people were there including George Washington, John Adams, and James Wilson. They discussed the situation and debated plans for action. They hoped to reach a compromise with the King of England, King George III. This took place in Philadelphia.

    First military engagements of the Revolutionary War. In total, there were 122 casualties. This all happened when the British army was sent to confiscate colonial weapons, when they run into an untrained angry militia who defeated the 700 trained British soldiers.

During this, they created the nation's first national government. It was the first government for the United States for five years that helped raise armies, fight the war, trade, create a money system, and create treaties.
