    Eva is an employee in Mr. Birling's company for a year. She is considered a good worker ready to be promoted. However, due to a protest lead by her asking for a raise she is sacked by Mr. Birling. This is the beginning of Eva's emotional crisis and fall.

    After being uneployed for two months, Eva finally gets a job at Milwards' shop. There, she works only for 2 months until a client, that results to be Sheila Birling, made a complain about her. Sheila was emotional during that day and susceptible. According to her, Eva mocks at her persona during a gown fitting and this is reason enough to make a scandal of it, under threat of stopping being a regular costumer of the shop. This is the last real steady job Eva had.

    Daisy Renton meets Gerald Croft
    After months unemployed Eva decides to change her name and start a life as Daisy Renton. She decides to go to the Palace Music Hall in Brumley to have a drink at the bar where she meets Mr. Croft, starting an affair. He'll help her providing her money and shelter up to September that year. The relationship ends abruptly. This months are considered by Eva/Daisy the happiest time in her life.

    On a November night, a desperate and alone Eva Smith meets Eric Birling in the Palace Bar who is heavily drunk and they spend the night together. After some meetings, she tells Eric that she is pregnant. Eric insists on giving her enough money to keep her going but Eva refuses; her doubts about the illegal procedence of the money (actually stolen from the office of Eric's father, Mr. Birling) make her to put and end to her relationship with Eric.

As Mrs Birling is not satiesfied with this, she influences the other members to refuse Eva's claims.
