  • battle of the Atlantic

    battle of the Atlantic
In the Battle of the Atlantic, the Royal Navy, the Canadian Royal Navy, and other allied countries' navies were pitted against each other all over the Atlantic Ocean for control of it. The ships of this battle would typically be against German and Italian U-boats and submarines. This battle took place due to the fact that both sides of the war wanted control of the Atlantic Ocean for resources and positioning for attacks on the enemy.
  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
The Battle of Briatin was between the British and the Germans. Germany had just taken Paris and now was within reach of the British mainland. In this battle, the Luftwaffe attacked a British convoy in the English channel and destroyed it. The Germans did this because they wanted, very badly, to invade the British mainland but the superior air power and planes of the Royal Air Force was too much for the Luftwaffe to overcome.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
In the Battle of Stalingard, the Russian Red Army had to defend it's city of Stalingrad against the German war machine. This battle was crucial due to the fact that it was Russia's biggest stand against the Germans. Had this battle been losty by the Red Army, the German advance into it's eastern Russian front would more than likely have been unhindereed by any other formiddable resistance.
  • Battle of El Alamein, Egypt

    Battle of El Alamein, Egypt
In the Battle of El Alamein, the tide of the war in Africa was changed. The allies were clearly in control of north Africa until Rommel launched a devastating counterattack. The British in north Africa were forced to retreat, and retreat quickly. They retreated so fast that many of their supplies were left behind. Until El Alamein, the British were in full retreat. This battle turned the tide for the British by allowing the British to have a victory and "revamp" for a better offensive.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch
In operation torch, the allies invaded north Africa against the axis powers there. This was the alternative to operation sledgehammer, an invasion similar to the likes of operation overlord (D-Day). This was crucial due to the fact that control of the Mediterranean Sea from north Africa would allow for more efficient and safe shipping for the merchant vessels and the navies of the allies.
  • Invasion of Sicily/Italy

    Invasion of Sicily/Italy
In 38 days, the U.S. and Great Britain took over Sicily, Italy. This was necessary because this place would help to blockk off the axis powers from supplies and set up positioning for an attack on the Italian mainland by allied forces.
  • battle of the Bulge

    battle of the Bulge
In the Battle of the Bulge, the allied forces were traken by surprise by the Germans in their last major offensive. The Germans were desperate and they launched a final blitzkrieg style attck to attempt to split the allies into two sections. However, the allied line held fast and the resulting formation of the line resembled a bulge like figurwe therefore giving the battle the name Battle of the Bulge.
  • Hitler commits suicide

    Hitler commits suicide
When Hitler realized that the war was unwinnable, he decided to end his life. He had come to the realization that the war was unwinnable and that he had failed to bring glory to Germany. Also the Jews were not exterminated and in Hitler's eyes this was also another failure. This was too much for Hitler to handle and was the cause of his suicide.
