    industrial revolution

In 1760 to 1840 there was a massive boom in what was being used, more space was used for the urbanisation, resource useage as well as the pollution boomed. At the time they had no idea what they were doing and how they were hurting the environment, they were very sadly sucking mother earth dry of her resources. As well as all of this they were spilling very harmful chemicals into the orzion layer.
  • industrial revolution conti

This showed how much we were hurting the enviroment and what we had to do to stop that, it showed that Earth really is something that we should look after
  • C.I.T.E.S formed by IUCN

This was formed in 1975 to be able to protect animals that are considered to be 'exotic'. It was made illegal to hunt them. This is important to the environment nowadays as it shows how in many ways that animals are equal to us, and that we should always protect them no matter what happens.

    three mile nuclear meltdown

On March the 2nd of 1979 there was a meltdown at three mile island. It was however only a small meltdown. But it was one of the worst meltdown in US history, a lot of people were affected. Some of them changed when they were born and came out not looking human.
  • Cherno Conti

This showed that we need to be careful with radioactive matter, that we need to try to contain it as well. It showed us that if we mess around with it, it will only go badly and people will die

    Chernobyl nuclear reactor blows up

The chernobyl nuclear accident happened on the 26th of April. There was an explosion in the main reactor which lead to the nuclear particles being thrown into the air and affecting Europe. Around 28 people died and more were affected by the radiation. The areas outside the power plant had to be cut down to stop the spread of the radiation

    bhopal diaster

The Bhopal diaster happened in India on the 12th of the 3rd month of 1986. What happened was that the American company 'bhopal' leaked chemicals into the environment, this affected the outer neghbours and it took a long time to tidy up. People suffered from really bad health problems and some died.

    greenhouse gases

In 1989 when the US had it's hottest summer to date, scientist were wondering what was happening and why the Earth was so hot. They looked into it and found out about green house gasses. What it does it that it thickens the earths 'protective layer' from the sun. As well as this some of the gases heat up the Earth.

    polar ice caps melting

In 1992 the sea levels were rising and the polar ice caps were melting, this is where the greenhouse gases come into play. They are heating up the Earth as we know it, this is then leading to the ice caps melting.... As with how much the ocean was starting to heat up which is another reason. This showed that we need to be careful with what we are really doing, and how we are treating the Earth.

    deepwater horizon

On April 20th there was a massive oil spill at deep water horizon of the coast of the gulf of Mexico. A shocking amount of over 10 million gallons of crude oil was spilt. it affected the eco system massively as the animals and the plants were affected, dophins have been found to change physically as the chemicals have affected them. The people, DP who own the platform have been held responsible. It changed the water massivly and to this today there is still a massive clean up operation.

    fukishma meltdown

In fukishama, Japan there was a complex meltdown at the nuclear power plant. A 15 meter severed the power supplies and the cooling vents. This lead into all of the three reactors into melting down. Earthquake was a 9.0. Everything was seen to be fine, however there was a ton of radioactive material that was released into the air, luckily nobody was harmed however over 160 thousand people had to be evacuated. In October of 2013 over 81 thousand people are still displaced.

plastic bag charge put into place

In the UK a charge of having to pay 5p was put into play, you now have to now buy the bags... The idea behind doing this is the fact they can now control what is going to the dump lands... A lot of plastic of bags were making it in into the sea and were killing the animals... they have done "save the earth bags" this basically means that the bags are bigger and will last longer. The usage of plastic bags has dropped massively after they introduced the 5p charge. 61 tonnes was being used.
