Erikson Timeline

  • Industry vs. Inferiority

    Justin (age 10) decides he wants to clean his room, because he wants to be able to find things and does not want to be embarrassed when his friends come over. In Erikson's 4th stage, Industry vs. Inferiority, the crisis is to learn how things work, understand, and organize (Industry) or a feeling of inferior at understanding, and organizing.
  • Identity vs. Confusion

    Justin (age 14) has a hard time fitting in at school, and is getting into trouble with the wrong crowd. In Erikson's 5th stage, Identity vs. Confusion, the crisis is between seeing yourself as a unique, integrated person, or confusion over who, or what, you really are.
  • Intimacy vs. Isolation

    Justin (age 17) finds it hard to enter into a serious relationship, or keep a relationship for very long. In Erikson's 6th stage, Intimacy vs. Isolation, the crisis is between the ability to make commitments to others, to love, and the inability to form an affectionate relationship.
